The History of
Kids Incorporated
Learning Center's

Kids Incorporated was founded 20 years ago by Jeanie Smith, a former elementary school teacher and basic skills specialist. She recognized the need for working parents to take their children to a place with age appropriate developmental activities. Her philosophy then, as it is now, is to provide a safe nurturing environment for children and that all activities have a purpose in mind.

The first Kids Incorporated Learning Centers facility opened in Mesa, Arizona, in November, 1988, to serve the working parents of Mesa Lutheran Hospital and the surrounding community. This was an on-site child care facility which operated from 6:00 a.m., until 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The learning center had a cheerful primary setting and was licensed for 75 children. It didn’t take long to fill the available spots and a waiting list soon developed. Jeanie Smith later went on to open five other similar centers.

Now Kids Incorporated Learning Centers is preparing to offer franchises in selected areas around the country.
